The 2017 Morey-Saint-Denis Les Chenevery 1er Cru has the simplest bouquet of Virgile Lignier’s 2017s that I tasted from bottle, perhaps going though some post-bottling dumb phase; touches of rose petal emerge with time. The palate is marked by grainy tannins, quite compact and dense, leading to a grippy, serious and saline finish. It just needs time in bottle.

Morey-Saint-Denis

Morey-Saint-Denis, a prestigious appellation in Burgundy's Côte de Nuits, is known for its elegant, well-structured Pinot Noir wines that balance the power of Gevrey-Chambertin and the finesse of Chambolle-Musigny. These wines feature flavours of red and black fruits, earthy spices, and floral notes, with refined tannins and excellent ageing potential. Home to five Grand Cru vineyards, including Clos de Tart and Clos Saint-Denis, top producers like Domaine Dujac, Domaine Ponsot, and Domaine des Lambrays are celebrated for their traditional winemaking and expressive wines.
